Andersons of Colonial N. Carolina

so I start this site in Virginia… go figure

George Anderson (b. 1756), Edgecombe property

with one comment

For ten years now I’ve tried to identify where Falk’s Branch and Brake’s Branch were in Edgecombe County.

I’ll bet money on this:

Google “Wiggins Lake” or “Deloaches Creek” to see the modern area (Wiggins Lake did not exist in colonial era)

(bear with me, I’m still working on the map linked below)

Some foreground on George can be found at this link:    http://www.tngenweb.org/records/henderson/cemeteries/g-ander.htm

Below is a section of the 1905 map…. the general area is highlighted… the reference to General Cox was my key to finding the mystery “Faulks Branch”…

The map below shows a couple of cemetaries that I am curious if anyone has seen and could comment on… they seem a possible site for Andersons or other kin.

  1. a comment from my Yahoo group

Mr. Anderson I recently surveyed one of cemeteries you have highlighted on map.
This cemetery is near Wiggins Lake. It is the Haywood Barnes Family Cemetery.
There is also another family cemetery behind this one, Garrett family members
and others are buried here. Both of these are African American. The other one on
the map I was not aware of . Will check and see abt. this one. There are
Andersons buried in the Whitaker’s area of county also.
    Janice

(I’m not sure which she is referring to but perhaps the curiosity bug will bite)
I’m pretty sure the Whitakers area is various members of the Micajah Anderson
    descendants.
