My genealogy slump…

with 4 comments

My day job has been a hassle lately so I haven’t been getting my genealogy fix.  It is probably best though… a slump forces me to sit back and peer “objectively” at some of my theories.  Some of my early stuff from ten years ago or so can even make me shake my head.  The “match” to my ancestor has to be around 1730 and all the culprits I research are just “snatches in time” with no beginning and no end.  But such is the game.

Speaking of theories…

Hell… some of my whoppers aren’t even in that league.  Good grief.

But then… maybe the old boys were abducted?   Yeah, yeah… go ahead and laugh.

  1. Mom always told me they got here by being shot our of shotgun aimed at the side of the mountain.

I got my 23andme results back about a month ago and have uploaded them to FF and Gedmatch. I just was able to access the Admixture this morning. I had “Indian” on 8 chromosomes with the highest percentage on one being 10.2%.

Is this Native American or is this from India? This is on the MDLP. I have 10 matches so far on this Chromosome and still need to compare the segment numbers, but I know some of them are they are exact.

    • I’ve only done the 12 step thingy… need to do the upgrade. Traci the Librarian has called me out for gross negligence on my part because I am a “direct” as she terms it. I was told as a kid that we supposedly had some “Shoshone” blood but my DNA match shows nothing but lame Euro trash… I suspect Scotland but who knows? I do have green eyes and freckles (I’ve heard there were no green-eyed indians?)
Anyway, concerning your India vs Indian question… have you ever had a wild urge to work at a 7 Eleven?

I haven’t had any Anderson matches… I have had some awkward Brantley matches which probably explains my fascination in all my notes about bastard children… that Elizabeth Pitman gal I harp on with theories just happened to be in the neighborhood of some Brantleys… just sayin’. But I digress…

      • You should do this, it is fascinating. I had stories but not proof and the chromosome that carries it is not connecting with any of the families that I would have thought. One of my issues has been that Grandma Blevins had four Blevins children, then married my Grandfather and had four more. I always thought I might not really be a “Blevins” if she had married a Blevins but no I have lots of Blevins matches so those four???? Quakers were good at the behind the barn thing. Some things don’t really change all that much but it makes our jobs harder.

  2. Well Burt Lancaster the actor played a comanche in a movie and we all know the comanches came from the Shoshone so there may be something to my old family tale… wait… that may no hold up… Burt had blue eyes. My great grandfather moved from Tenn to Comanche, TX in 1889…. See! it all adds up.

Just kidding… I’m not really sure what color Burt’s eyes were. 🙂
